A man from no other place than Ashaiman which is often seen and tagged as a den for criminals has just taken Ghana by surprise after he has invented pavement blocks made from plastic waste.

It is public knowledge how much of a problem the issue of plastic waste is for not only Ghana, but the worldwide.

Speaking in an interview with Kofi TV, Nelson Boateng explained that he has a machine he made by himself that he uses in converting the plastic waste into the pavement block that he said do not require the use of any adhesive to be laid.

Aside the fact that this innovation has a big potential to lead the agenda to keep Ghana and its beaches clean, Nelson Boateng also revealed that it has provided a source of livelihood for residents especially women who he said earn about GH₵50 each day for gathering plastic waste and supplying to his outfit.

Mr. Boateng is confident that his pavement blocks are eco-friendly and will last for as long as 500 years if used for constructing roads.

Many young Ghanaians have done great things in the past, but they have been left to rot. One could only hope that policy makers would direct their attention to Nelson Boateng’s innovation and invest in it, looking at its economic and environmental potentials for Ghana and the globe.
