61,836 voters reject President Mahama

While some political watchers think the "NO"  figure is significant for a party internal election other think it is negligible considering the number of people who voted yes.

Certified results for the Electoral Commission indicate that 61,836 NDC delegates voted against the retention of President Mahama as the party's candidate in the 2016 elections.

This was against the 95 per cent who votes YES in favour of the president.

President Mahama went into the polls unchallenged , but had to be endorsed according to the party's rules.

The 61,836 'No' voters represent 4.90% from the 265 out of 275 constituencies.

The total  valid votes according to the EC were 1,260,954 , the rejected votes stood at 25,774 and the overall votes cast were 1,286,728.

President Mahama will be seeking a second term in the 2016 election. His main contender will be the NPP's Nana Akufo Addo who he defeated in the 2012 elections.
