The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has slammed the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for calling on its members to defend themselves against attacks from NPP members.
John Boadu singled out the NDC's National Chairman, Kofi Portuphy, for criticism, accsuing him of inciting violence and a "face saving exercise" after a poor showing at the polls.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Accra Portuphy said the members of the NDC have been calm so far hoping the attacks will cease.
“I am the leader of the party; I’m saying if they attack them they should defend themselves while seeking police protection. They should not cross their arms for NPP people to butcher them to death.”
But Boadu believes the NDC's by the call, is only exhibiting the incompetence of President John Mahama, saying the president is unable to guarantee the safety of Ghanaians.
Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM Friday, he recalled how the NDC criticised President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo's infamous "all die be die" comments which was also a call on NPP supporters to defend themselves against attacks from NDC supporters when the NPP lost power in 2008.
He further accused the party of stage-managing the attacks to project the incoming administration as violent.
"The NDC don't have credibility at all in this matter," he said, citing an attack on the NADMO office in Tamale which he claimed was carried out by NDC supporters.
