The National Democratic Congress NDC says it will be suicidal to follow the Peoples National Convention PNC's suggestion not to field a candidate in Builsa South, the only seat the PNC holds in parliament.
The PNC has accused the NDC of having an agenda to wipe the party out of parliament by continuously fielding candidates in constituencies held by PNC since 2012.
"They have contested and fielded candidates against us. In 2012, leading to the parliamentary primaries, the NDC discriminated between sitting MPs and what they describe as orphan constituencies. In describing orphan constituencies they targeted the PNC constituencies where we were supporting them in parliament as orphan constituencies and they went ahead to parade for primaries in those constituencies. Eventually by their actions we lost that seat." Bernard Mona said
The PNC argued that the NDC's conduct breaches a gentleman's agreement both parties had after the 2008 election.
But speaking on Citi Fm, the NDC deputy general secretary George Lawson said the PNC has not shown seriousness in its approach to the issue.
"A gentleman's agreement does not mean you have to issue a pubic statement. Then that political party is not serious. They have not come to tell us anything. We are hearing it via the media which is not appropriate."
