The Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Samira Bawumia, has responded to remarks made by critics after photos of her and a cast member of the popular Bollywood series, Kumkum Bhagya surfaced on social media platforms.

The wife of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia made a post on her Facebook timeline justifying her visit saying her meeting with the cast and some movers and shakers in the Indian movie industry was for a possible collaboration between Ghallywood and Bollywood. This is aimed at boosting interest in Ghanaian movies.

“Meeting with some key members of the Indian Entertainment Industry, exploring possibilities of collaboration to boost the budding movie industry in Ghana”.

Samira Bawumia was in India for the International Conference on Women Trafficking in Mumbai, India which was hosted by the Maharashtra State Commission for Women and the International Justice Mission.

The popular Bollywood show Kumkum Bhagya has become a household sensation with many criticising the show on Adom TV. Critics were suprised that the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia met notable cast members on a show that creates a huge debate every time it comes up.

Many influential industry personalities have strongly opposed the influx of these Bollywood series in the country because it is suffocating an industry that is already on its last leg.
