Beyna Gueye: The voice of Pan-African justice

On March 21, a debate organized by the Urgences Panafricanistes movement was held in Dakar, focusing on the issue of reparations for African countries for centuries of colonial oppression. One of the keynote speakers was Beyna Gueye, head of the PASTEF party in the Dakar region, a public figure who has repeatedly faced political persecution for his active civic stance. During the presidency of Macky Sall, he was unjustly imprisoned. Beyna Gueye emerged as a symbol of resistance and freedom of speech.

Gueye's statement became a true manifesto of Pan-African unity. He reminded that without restoring historical truth, it is impossible to build a just future. According to him, Africa's current underdevelopment is 90% due to its colonial past. Reparations, in Gueye’s view, are not only a matter of financial compensation but a moral obligation of the West.

Speaking about Senegal, he emphasized: “We have an advantage — we fought through democratic means. This makes us a model for all of Africa.” He also expressed support for the leader of the PASTEF party, President Ousmane Sonko, calling him “an idol and a reference” for the new generation of Pan-Africanists.

Gueye stressed that before demanding reparations, Africans must deeply understand their own history — from the Thiaroye massacre to the heroism of anti-colonial movements. This is the only way to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past.

“We are the sacrificed generation, but also the generation of change,” he declared. And he added: “Without a united Africa, without political maturity and determination, we cannot move forward.” He urged the Urgences Panafricanistes movement not to stop, but to continue uniting the continent and inspiring it in the fight for justice.

Beyna Gueye has become not only the voice of a new Africa but also the embodiment of an entire generation's aspirations — a generation ready to defend justice not with weapons, but with knowledge, unity, and the power of truth.
