Female graphic designers around the globe have cut, filled in, and reshaped a woman to make her more attractive to other citizens of their country.

The project, sponsored by UK pharmacy chain Superdrug looked at the differences in the perceptions of beauty across the world, the company said the goal was to “better understand potentially unrealistic standards of beauty and to see how such pressures vary around the world.”

18 freelance designers were asked to Photoshop the woman's form, asked to “retouch this woman to make her more attractive to the citizens of your country.”

The designers have changed hair colour, attire, skin tone and the woman's figure has changed drastically across the world.

In China, she was made about half the size, while in The Netherlands, she was given heeled boots to add to her look. The underwear she wears changed through the world, and most designers shrunk her stomach.

The designers were from the USA, China, Columbia, Egypt, Italy, The Netherlands, Peru, Philippines, Romania, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, Mexico, Syria, United Kingdom, Ukraine, Argentina and Venezuela.

Superdrug did the same thing but with a male photo last week.

The project shows a shirtless white man, with a beard, tan lines and a pudgy stomach as the original to be altered.

Across the world the man's skin tone changed, as did it body shape.

In China the man's head shrunk, and in South Africa, it appears the designer placed the man's head on an entirely different body, but slightly askew.
