In a statement released by the airline, the body was found on the plane that had departed the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, and landed at Johannesburg’s or Tambo International Airport in the evening of that day.
The statement which was signed by Arik Air's spokesman, Adebanji Ola, reads:
“The lifeless body of a stowaway was on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, found in the main wheel well of one of Arik Air’s A330-200 aircraft.
South African engineers discovered the body of the stowaway during an inspection. Investigations are ongoing to determine how the stowaway found his way into the aircraft’s main wheel well.”
It is a sad testimony that in the past few years, a number of Nigerian immigrants whose hopes of leaving the country for greener pastures have lost their lives in strange circumstances.
