Woman who used children as beggars arraigned in court
A 36-year-old woman,
Punch reports that Okegbero, an unemployed woman who resides at Ojota area of the state, was arrested around Maryland after she forced two young children to act as beggars on the streets.
The prosecutor in the case, Inspector Simeon Inuoha, told the court that the Okegbero was arrested after a police patrol team interrogated the children on why they were on the streets begging and they said it was their mother who forced them to beg.
“The children were apprehended by the police on patrol, and they confessed that it was their mother that told them to be begging,” Inspector Inuoha said.
He added that the children who are aged 10 and eight respectively, said they were not in school as they are forced into the streets every day by their mother to beg and bring the money to her.
When the charge of conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace was read to Okegbero, she pleaded not guilty and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. B. O. Osunsanmi, granted her a N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum, before adjourning the case to February 20, 2017, for mention.
