The Toronto Blue Jays got the better of Johnny Cueto to claim an 11-8 win over the Kansas City Royals in the MLB play-offs.

Trailing 2-0 in the American League (AL) Championship Series, the Blue Jays needed a win at the Rogers Centre on Monday.

Royals starter Cueto only lasted two innings, giving up six hits and eight runs as Toronto's hitters came to life.

Josh Donaldson, Troy Tulowitzki and Ryan Goins all went two-for-four, combining for nine RBIs.

Edwin Encarnacion also had two hits as the Blue Jays finished with 11, four fewer than the Royals.

With his team leading 3-2, Tulowitzki delivered the key moment " blasting a three-run homer off Cueto in the third.

Donaldson also homered in that inning as the Blue Jays pulled 9-2 ahead.

Toronto starter Marcus Stroman came through 6.1 innings, conceding four runs.

For the Royals, Alcides Escobar was four-for-five in the loss, which came despite rallying with a four-run ninth.
