Yanina Wickmayer to face Nicole Gibbs in Carlsbad final

Yanina Wickmayer and Nicole Gibbs enjoyed straightforward semi-final victories at the Carlsbad Classic on Saturday.

Top seed Yanina Wickmayer will meet Nicole Gibbs in the final of the Carlsbad Classic on Sunday after easing past Maria Sakkari 6-4 6-2.

Wickmayer has yet to drop a set in California this week, but needed to be on her game against the world number 182, the Belgian having to save six break points in the first set.

There were no such problems in the second, though, as Wickmayer raced into the final in 84 minutes.

Gibbs' semi-final was even more one-sided as she brushed aside the challenge of Jennifer Brady, the fifth seed cruising to a 6-0 6-4 victory to book her place in the final.
