Ghanaians and Boxing pros react to Richard Commey’s defeat to Teofimo Lopez

Lopez snatched the IBF Lightweight Championship with a spectacular second-round TKO victory of Commey.

Teofimo Lopez came in the favorite as a challenger tonight, and he showed why, as he stopped Richard Commey in the second round to win the IBF lightweight title at Madison Square Garden.

The 22-year-old Lopez (15-0, 12 KO) absolutely drilled Commey (29-3, 26 KO) with a right hand as both throw their rights at the same time, Lopez’ getting home before Commey’s could connect.

The 32-year-old courageously tried to fight out of the trouble once he got up, but Lopez pounced on Commey and forced referee David Fields to stop the fight.

Richard Commey's team got their strategy wrong. Teofimo Lopez was always going to start fast. Richard should have weathered the early storm and then gone to work. Lopez is the new IBF lightweight champion.
