While many artistes are usually fixated with making hits, never has the role of seasoned cinematographers been more important in the shooting of music videos.

1. Becca - Yes I Do feat Tiwa Savage
Becca hasn’t had an explosive 2019 in terms of her music career, but the release of “Yes I do” ensured she ended the year on a very strong footing.
Forget the fact that the song is a massive hit, its video is also an exceptional piece of work. Combining with award-winning director, Ani James, everything about the video was just perfect.
Little surprise, therefore, that “Yes I do” has almost 900,000 views on YouTube just three months into its release.
2. Ko-Jo Cue - Dzo feat Worlasi
Love can sometimes be stressful, and that is the exact message that Ko-Jo Cue seeks to convey in his special single, “Dzo”.
The visual representation of the storyline was as vivid as the song itself comes, thanks to some fantastic direction from the award-winning Esianyo Kumodzi.
From Worlasi’s hanging-by-a-thread scene to the very end, the visual for “Dzo” was a masterpiece.
3. Wendy Shay - Stevie Wonder
When the video of a song has more than two million views on YouTube, it tells how well the reception to the song has been.
That is the case of Wendy Shay’s “Stevie Wonder” which features dancehall sensation Shatta Wale.
Directed by Yaw Skyface, the video has everything a modern music video should have: good costuming, great imagery, an even better close-knit locations, and an amazing concept.
4. Kuami Eugene – Ohemaa feat KiDi
When Kuami Eugene emerged on the music scene, one of his biggest criticisms was how poor his videos were.
However, the ‘Rockstar’ has since improved tremendously and the visual for “Ohemaa” is testament of this improvement.
Video director, Rex had to go for a setting, background and costumes that communicate something African. The location was also perfect and the Afrocentric theme that runs through the video made even more special.
5. Sarkodie - Party & Bullsh#t feat Donae'O & Idris Elba
Undoubtedly, Sarkodie’s ‘Party & Bullsh#t’ stands tall as the best hip-hop music video by any Ghanaian artiste in the year 2019.
Despite the clout that Donae’O and Hollywood star Idris Elba added to the visual, the video itself was absolutely top-notch.
The club setting and the effects on the visuals are simply unmatched. Kudos to Capone and Guise who directed the video.
6. Kwesi Arthur - Nobody feat. Mr Eazi
Kwesi Arthur has been holding it down in Ghana for some time now, having added singing to his previously known rap act.
The “Grind day” hit maker is, however, not known for shooting incredible music videos, but he made sure to change that in 2019.
The video for “Nobody”, which was directed by Yaw Skyface, tells the story of two botched love relationships. The visuals totally capture the verses of the artistes and that is only synonymous with a top music video.
7. Medikal - Omo Ada Remix feat Shatta Wale
Yaw Skyface is involved in almost every music video currently, and another of his top directed videos is Medikal’s ‘Omo Ada’.
The AMG rapper had his biggest ever YouTube video with ‘Omo Ada’, which has almost three million views.
The effects on the video are absolutely unmatched, while its imagery and graphics are also exceptional.
8. Stonebwoy - Shuga feat. Beenie Man
Party on a train, Beenie Man as a DJ, impeccable dancers and amazing graphics: sounds like a Stonebwoy music video right?
The Bhim Nation president has raised the standards in terms of music videos and the visual for “Shuga” shows he’s not ready to slow down.
Collaborating with music director, Bling Blang, Stonebwoy came up with a very beautiful, detailed video for the song “Shuga”.
9. RJZ - Bye Bye
Creativity is everything when it comes to shooting music videos. That is why the visual for RJZ’s “Bye Bye” deserves to be applauded.
The singer collaborated with Henry Akrong to bring out a well thought-out, well-crafted music video with a great storyline.
If the decision to use an albino couple as the main characters was genius, the catchiness of the storyline and the impeccable pictures, make the video mind-blowing.
10. Cina Soul - Killi Mi
Cina Soul rarely disappoints when it comes to making videos for her songs. In the visual for “Killi Mi”, the young songstress emphasises this fact.
Directed by Gene Adu, the video tackles domestic violence as well as abuse in relationships. From pictures to concept to graphics to setting, this was great a great video with everything on point.
