Municipal assembly demolishes structures to prevent disaster, crime

Over 90 structures, mostly wooden, have been brought down by personnel of the Asokore-Mampong Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti region.

The demolition was carried out with the support of the security agencies.

The structures demolished included kiosks also made of wood.

The demolishing occurred at Aboabo Pelele, a crowded and slum-looking suburb where according to the Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Nurudeen Hamidan, the residents were encroaching on the banks of the Aboabo stream and also harbours criminals.

He noted that the area also poses a serious health threat to the inhabitants and the people in the surrounding communities.
