The operation took place in Djaboullam on Sunday, March 22, after authorities in Niger and Chad received information that the terrorists were regrouping, Reuters reports.

Several vehicles and motorcycles which the insurgents rode on were said to have been damaged during the battle.

"Niger and Chad had received intelligence that a group of Boko Haram fighters had gathered in the border village," a Nigerien officer told Reuters.

"We know they are massing in Malam Fatori, waiting for us to come," he added.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has accused Chad of lying about its successes against the terrorist sect after Chadian troops stated that Nigerian soldiers were too afraid to take over recaptured towns.

Soldiers from Niger and Chad have been deployed to Nigeria as part of a multinational force constituted to fight Boko Haram.
