Thousands of Singaporeans queue up to pay tribute to late leader (Photos)

Thousands of Singaporeans thronged out, forming huge queues in downtown <strong>Singapore</strong> to pay tribute to their late leader, <strong>Lee Kuan Yew.</strong>

According to BBC, as of 15:00 local time, the waiting time was 8 hours.

Officials discouraged people from joining the queue but said the viewing will now be open 24 hours.

Lee Kuan Yew passed away in the early hours of Monday at the age of 91. He was Singapore's prime minister for 31 years and is seen as its founding father.

His burial will be on Sunday.

The viewing of his body will end on Saturday night and his body will be moved the next day to a cultural centre for the funeral.

Meanwhile, the city's underground train network, the MRT is expected to run 24 hours today, Wednesday to enable people commute while many organisations and businesses are giving employees time off to pay their respects.
