The Ghana Cement (GHACEM) has increased the price of cement.

According to reports, the increment is as a result of the instability of the local currency in the international market.

Some checks at various distributor joints showed that a bag of cement sells at GH¢31 from a previous price of GH¢27.

Dr. Dawson Amoah, the Corporate Strategy and Planning Director of GHACEM Limited speaking on TV3Tuesday, June 16, said the ex-factory prices have gone up by GH¢2.8.

GHACEM, the leading producer of the product in Ghana, noted that as a result of the continuous depreciation of the Ghana cedi against major currencies, it has increased the ex-factory price of the GHACEM Super Rapid cement from GH¢26.555 per bag to GH¢29.375.

According to him, GHACEM has no influence on price increases at the distributor level.

He blamed importers for high cost of raw materials in the production of the product.
