'I don't want 50.7%. I want 59%, 58%, 60%" the president said at a rally at Sewfi Wiaso in the Western region on Monday.

He believed a huge win will not give the opposition the chance to challenge the results as it happened in the 2012 election petition case which was started by the New Patriotic Party.

Meanwhile, Pollster Ben Ephson has predicted that President John Dramani Mahama will secure a first round victory in the 2016 elections.

He said his latest poll indicates that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate will win by 52.4% while the New Patriotic Party’s Nana Akufo-Addo will secure 45.9%.

The other parties, he said, will claim a meagre 1.7%.

So far, out of three polls published in the media, only Ben Ephson’s poll has predicted a Mahama victory.

A research from the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana last week indicated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would take the lead over the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming general elections.

According to a team of researchers from the department led by a senior lecturer, Dr Isaac Owusu-Mensah, the opposition party would record 49.9%.

The team said the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) would also record a rate of 39.9%.

The team of political scientists further said the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) would also record 5% whiles the Convention People’s Party (CPP) will gather 1.7%.

The National Democratic Party (NDP) would get 1.7% approval and Dr Edward Mahama of the PNC would record 0.2% respectively.
