Rio Ferdinand says Arsenal defender is best in Premier League

Arsenal centre-back, Laurent Koscielny has been hailed as the best defender in the Premier League by Rio Ferdinand.

Speaking as a pundits on BT Sports after Arsenal’s away at Olympiacos, Ferdinand hailed Kosielny who was solid at the back to the Gunners as they secured the win that took them to the knock out stage.

“Koscielny for me, when he's on form I think he's the best defender in the league,” Ferdinand said.

“Kompany's not fit enough consistently enough and he's turned into a real top class defender.”

Also speaking on BT Sport, former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard said Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is the best in that position in the Premier League.

“Mentally I don't think he'll be happy himself playing out wide,” Gerrard said about Ramsey who has been playing out wide for the Gunners before an injury forced Arsene Wenger to play him in the middle.

“He hasn't got the legs. His qualities are all in the middle.

“For me, when he's in that form he's the best attacking midfielder in the Premier League, so you've got to play your best players where they want to be, and I'm sure he'll want to be in the middle.”
