There was a brief stand-off between the students and the armed police personnel on campus.

The ensuing chaos has led to the cancellation of the exams and a temporary closure of the school.

The students are blaming the new rector of the Institute, Professor Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo, for the chaos.

According to them, former rector, Dr. Wilberforce Sefakor Dzisah, allowed students who have paid 60 percent of their fees to write their exams but their new rector is having none of that.

"Every student of Campus GIJ has the right to sit for examinations...Per the rules and information from the office of the SRC President, Emmanuel Kumah," a student of the Institute, Linus Siaw Nartey wrote on Facebook.

He continued:  "Every student with 60% payment of his or her fees is eligible to sit for semester examinations.But as it stand now, some weekend students from yesterday have been denied entry to the exam halls to take part in the exams with the Head of Academics citing numerous reasons which are just not resonable.Have been at GIJ for three months now but the treatment given to we the weekend students is just below the belt...Exams in the next 10 mins have been called off..."

“I have paid almost all my fees and I am left with just 100 cedis but they prevented me from writing,” another student said.
