These 5 notable players were snubbed by Kwesi Appiah for Congo clash

There was no place for Wakaso, Agyemang Badu, Kwarasey, Acquah and Waris in Kwesi Appiah’s 24-man squad for the double-header against Congo

Notable among the player who were not selected for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Congo were Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, Mubarak Wakaso, Adam Kwarasey, Afriyie Acquah and Majeed Waris.

Afriyie Acquah who has been tasting regular football at Torino was the biggest absentee on the 24-man squad. He was selected for Ghana’s triple-header against Ethiopia, Mexico and the USA in June and July, so his snub has come as a surprise.

Both Agyemang Badu and Mubarak Wakaso were not included in Kwesi Appiah’s first selection on his return as Black Stars coach and they have been snubbed again.

The two until Kwesi Appiah’s second stint were regular faces in the Black Stars squad for qualifiers and other assignments, but it looks like they would have to do more to earn a place back into the Black Stars.

Agyemang Badu and Wakaso have changed clubs, with the former joining Bursaspor in Turkey, while the latter signed for Alaves in Spain.

Adam Kwarasey who is also active at club level was not invited by James Kwesi Appiah. The former Khartoum FC coach invited the Norwegian based player to the Black Stars in the triple-header, but he opted out citing injury. He was expected to make a return to the team, yet he was overlooked and the reasons for his absence is yet to be known.

Majeeed Waris is another notable absentee from the Black Stars squad to face Congo. It is understood that the FC Lorient striker is unsettled, looking for a club, after his team suffered relegation, so he was excused from the game. Waris who was named in the Ghana’s squad that played against Congo, Mexico and the USA have been linked with a move to several English Premier League outfits.
