Bawumia acts like NPP's propaganda wing - Former Dep. Minister

According to Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Dr. Bawumia must desist from purporting to be educating former President Mahama on national issues.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia must desist from purporting to be educating former President Mahama on national issues.

His comment comes at the back of Bawumia who has chastised former President Mahama after the latter accused him of "embarrassing" President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with a "419" digital addressing application which cost Ghana $2.5 million (GHS9.9m) when it already existed on mobile phones.

According Bawumia, Mahama, while in office, engaged in propaganda which did not inure to his benefit and so wondered why he would still be wallowing in it while in opposition.

Addressing the National Democratic Congress(NDC) Unity walk in Cape Coast in the Central Region on Sunday, Mahama said new governments, all over the world, are often given honeymoon periods to roll out their policies.

However, he said the Akufo-Addo administration is committing so many mistakes and that the President is not acting boldly to correct them.

One of such mistakes, the ex-president said, is the launch of the Ghana Post GPS App.

Responding to comments by Mahama , Dr Bawumia said: "We know a 419 scam when we see one and that unfortunately was the hallmark of the administration of former president Mahama. Ghanaians will find out more soon as people are held legally accountable. With the record that former president Mahama has in the area of governance, it is incredible that he would have the effrontery to talk about '419 scams'...I should note that propaganda did not help former President Mahama when he was in government and it is certainly not going to help him in opposition. We welcome constructive criticism but before you criticise, please take your time to make sure you know what you are talking about otherwise you would be sadly exposed as being ignorant of simple facts as in this case."

But Felix Ofosu Kwakye in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM said Dr Bawumia's response to Mahama was merely propaganda.

He said "Listening to the Vice President, with the greatest respect to him, one could mistake him for a heartless NPP serial caller repeating the propaganda lines that they became so enamored of in the run-up the 2016 elections. He came across as a man whose hyperbolic description of the Ghana Post App has been punctured by sound technical analysis by people who understand the sector and applications like that. The Vice President is by no means an IT expert, so what he read, was merely what he has been told by the people who developed the app."

"Several independent experts have assessed this app and pointed out deep flaws which do not justify the amount of money that has been invested into it….What government is required to do, is to take on board the criticisms of the experts who have spoken and to look into talks about inflation of the cost of the app. It does not lie in the mouth of the Vice President to come and purport to educate John Mahama on anything," the former Deputy Minister added.
