Ghana grabs 15 nominations for 2016 AMAA Awards

Ghana had a maximum of fifteen (15) nominations with five (5) films for the upcoming 2016 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAAs) to take place in June.

Ghana had a maximum of fifteen (15) nominations with five (5) films for the upcoming 2016 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAAs) to take place in June.

The nominations were announced on Sunday, May 15 by President of 2016 AMAA Jury, Husseini Shaibu during a ceremony at the Protea Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.

Unlike previous years, Ghana recorded  a lot of new faces on the nomination list; some of whom included new actor, Joseph Otsiman who got the nod for "Best Actor In Supporting  Role"  for his performance in the drama thriller film, "The Cursed Ones" directed by Nana Obiri Yeboah, who was also nominated for AMAA 2016 Award For Best Director category.

New and young actress, Ophelia Klenam Dzidzornu is also competing in AMAA 2016 Award For Best Young/Promising Actor category for her role in The Cursed Ones while English actor, Oris Erhuero is also representing Ghana in the Best Actor In Leading Role category for his performance in the same Ghanaian movie The Cursed Ones.

The movie had majority of the nominations for Ghana but missed out on "Best Actress in Lead Role" category. Ghana didn’t make it into that category at all.

Meanwhile Shirley Frimpong Manso’s directed Rebecca had two nominations in the categories: AMAA 2016 Award For Achievements In Editing and Sound.

Then two other Ghanaian films: "Cursed Treasure" and "Daggers of Life" (Agbe Fe Akumehewo) were both nominated for "Ousmane Sembene  AMAA 2016 Award For Best Film In An African Language".

The Peculiar Life of a Spider from also Ghana made it into the Best Animation Category.

This year’s AMAA will take place in June in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
