5 shot, several injured in Donkorkrom police shootout

The incident happened after irate residents set the police station there on fire in protest over some police officers who have fled after being allegedly involved a bullion van attack which led to the death of the driver.

Some residents of Donkorkrom in the Eastern region have sustained various degrees of injuries over clashes with the police.

Five out of the injured persons are in critical condition and have been rushed to the Presbyterian Hospital at Donkorkrom, reports say.
The residents argued that they had marched to the police station to present a petition over recent robbery incidents in the area.
The situation, however, got out of hand when the police started firing into the demonstrators.

Meanwhile, one of the two Police officers who escaped police custody after the attack on a bullion van in Nkawkaw in the Eastern region has been re-arrested.
Lance Corporal Kusi Abrokwah was allegedly found by residents in the bush around Nkawkaw and handed over to the police.
