Veteran gospel musician Bernice Offei battled dementia for nearly five years before her death at age 63, according to her former manager, Kwasi Ernest.
Kwasi Ernest said the condition affected her memory and daily activities and contributed to her disappearance after she left home and was unable to find her way back.
Bernice Offei was eventually found and taken to hospital but died on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Kwasi remembered her as a disciplined musician whose Christian faith strongly influenced her life.
Kwasi Ernest disclosed the information while confirming the singer’s death during an interview on Max TV on September 14, 2026.
He explained that the condition had progressively affected Bernice Offei’s memory and her ability to carry out some everyday activities, including finding her way home after leaving the house.
He said;
For four to five years, she had been battling with dementia that affected her brain. When someone is sick of dementia, it affects the daily life of the person
According to Kwasi Ernest, the deterioration in her condition contributed to an incident in which the singer left home but was unable to find her way back.
He said her family initially conducted a private search before making an appeal to the public after their efforts failed to locate her.
He added;
She left home and the ailment was triggered, so she couldn't locate her house. After the initial search by the family wasn't yielding results, they made the search public and they later found her
Bernice Offei was eventually found and taken to hospital by her family for medical attention. However, her condition reportedly continued to worsen until her death on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
Beyond her music career, Kwasi Ernest remembered the late singer for her disciplined character and unwavering Christian faith.
He described her as a deeply religious woman who sought to live according to the principles she preached rather than simply speaking about her faith.
According to him, Bernice Offei consistently demonstrated her beliefs through her conduct and made a conscious effort to put her Christian values into practice in her daily life.
