The government has tightened security along the Nkonya, Alavanyo border in the Volta Region after renewed clashes there last week claimed two lives.

He assured residents that the government is doing all it can to make sure they feel safe to carry out their normal day to day business.

He told Accra-based Joy FM: “I want to assure them, the people of the area that government is going to do all in its power to make sure that they feel safe. And therefore they should make sure that they do not panic.

“We sent security team by the southern command of the military there. So we are going to do everything to make sure that there is peace and safety for all of them.”

The interior minister urged the residents to volunteer information about the perpetrators of last week’s killings.

He also urged them not to panic because the government is committed to ensuring that they feel safe in the area.

“So please they shouldn’t panic, they should go about their duties but they should help us by giving us information to let us know the perpetrators of these offences and I assure them that once we get that report and information we are going to investigate and bring all those who are involved in wrongdoing to book,” he said.

“Meanwhile, they should have faith that the government is committed to ensuring they have peace and safety in the area,” he added.
