Unionised workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have served notice that they will embark on a strike within seven days if the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) does not withdraw its directive for the suspension of the electricity billing software.
According to a statement from the PURC and copied to Pulse.com.gh, the directive has been "necessitated by Complaints which it has received from consumers of Electricity regarding issues of overbilling."
Customers who use the post-paid meters say they are being overcharged after the new tariff implementation.
But addressing a press conference on Monday, the General Secretary of the Public Utility Workers Union Bondzie Quaye said they are giving the PURC a 7-day ultimatum to withdraw the directive.
According to the workers, there is nothing wrong with the software.
Meanwhile, the Inter-Agency Taskforce put together to rectify the incessant complaints from Ghanaians on the outrageous bills from the ECG have completed its work and have submitted its report for immediate implementation.
