NPP to increase the Army retirement age

The Chairman of the party’s sub-committee on Defence and Interior revealed this to journalists and said the NPP will increase their service years by five years.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed that they will increase the service period of recruits popularly referred to as ‘other ranks’ in the Ghana Armed Forces if they are voted into power after the December polls.

In explaining this decision, Nitiwul said civil servants are expected to retire at age 60, but most of the people in the army retire earlier than that. He said staying longer in the army will give them opportunities in the Ghana Armed Forces.

Meanwhile President Mahama has responded to this promise saying that it is only a political promise by the NPP which will not be fulfilled. He said they are only making such a promise to get the members of the Army to vote for the NPP
