The Member of Parliament for the Efutu Constituency in the Central Region Alexander Afenyo Markin had earlier threatened to sue the Electoral Commission if it fails to extend the re-registration of NHIS registrants.
EC’s Communications Director, Eric Dzakpasu, had earlier said at a press conference last Friday that “there is no evidence that when an extension is granted, the remaining people will come out of their houses or communities to get their name re-registered.”

But following pleas by some opposition parties and other stakeholders for the exercise to be extended, the EC has reconsidered its earlier decision.
After an IPAC meeting on Wednesday, the EC stated that the re-registration exercise, which was supposed to end on August 5, has been extended to August 12, 2016.
Afenyo Markin argues the Commission cannot use an administrative decision to deny people the opportunity to re-register.
