3 points from Match Day One

Pulse.com.gh editor Godfred Akoto Boafo runs through some key points after Match Day One of the Ghana Premier League

The first match day of the Ghana Premier League has passed and Pulse.com.gh editor Godfred Akoto Boafo shares his thoughts on an exciting series of games.Kotoko falter under the spotlight

Kumasi Asante Kotoko are rarely upstaged but WAFA seem to be developing a habit of doing so after a fine 2-0 win at Sogakope. Kotoko and David Duncan had been installed as pre-season favorites after a spending spree that few could match but alas once again they failed to deliver a performance to match the buildup. Kotoko was thoroughly outplayed for vast parts of the game and still cannot generate creativity from a very static midfield. David Duncan has the materials but he needs to find a way to build a unit or more of Saturday's result awaits the Porcupine Warriors. The fans came out to watch

Much has been written and said in the Ghanaian media about fan apathy because of the many organizational and legal issues that have bedeviled the Ghana Football Association in recent times. There was a genuine fear that fans would continue to stay away as was the case in several instances last season but the fears seem farfetched other evidence of what was witnessed at various league centers. The Accra Sports Stadium, Cape Coast stadium, Sogakope and several others across the country all recorded high attendance numbers. The hard part will be to keep these numbers as the norm and not a one off.

Techiman City is a welcome addition

The newly promoted side inadvertently became one of the most publicized teams based  on their long drawn tussle with the Ethics Committee over a bribery allegation but based on sheer fan appeal and drama, they are a welcome addition.Issaka Ibrahim's late winner gave them victory over regional rivals Berekum Chelsea and turned the stadium into one huge party. Led by their abrasive owner Charles Ntim, Techiman will be a tough venue to visit and will provide more drama to the script of this season.
