The suspect who is the Imam for the community is said to have used a wooden object to hit his late wife, Ayishetu after which he locked her up.

According to Kumasi-based Ultimate FM, the residents in the community have been asked not to talk about the incident with any stranger because of the respect they have for the Imam, Afa Tijani.

Residents narrated to Kumasi-based Ultimate FM that the couple started having issues when Afa Tijani decided to take a second wife. Ayishetu was not in favour of it but Tijani went ahead to marry a second wife.

After his second marriage, the residents narrate that there have always been confusion and argument between the two women. Meanwhile, Tijani always supports his second wife and condemns the deceased.

When Ayishetu realised the situation was worsening, she wanted a divorce but was encouraged to stay married by some elders.

The residents added that no one knows the cause of the last quarrel that caused Ayishetu’s death but upon hearing the two argue, Tijani rushed out from his room and hit the deceased with a stick.

According to them, the woman was bundled inside her room and abandoned to battle for her life in pains.

On Sunday, August 20, 2017, one of the daughters of Ayishetu visited and saw her mother badly injured.

The daughter then rushed her to the Tamale Teaching Hospital where she was confirmed dead in the course of receiving treatment.

After she was pronounced dead, a delegation from Tamale suspected to be family members of Tijani came to plead with Ayishetu’s family not to report the case to the Police.

Meanwhile, family members of the deceased have threatened to revenge Ayishetu’s death. They say they will also kill their in-law as a form of revenge.
