The young graduate of the University College of the Education, Winneba is making the headlines after taking charge of DC United in the Brong Ahafo region.
The 26-year-old woman is the head coach of DC United, a Division Two side based in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana.
Mavis Appiah’s desire to pursue coaching as a career began while studying Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education at the University and earned a CAF license C after graduating.
She is reportedly to have been at DC United since 2016 as assistant coach before becoming the head coach of the club.
Mavis recently told FIFA she is determined to change the trend in Ghana where men coach both the men’s and women’s football teams.
“Here in Ghana, you see men coaching men’s football, and men coaching women’s football. But I decided to change the trend.
“If you want something, you don’t go to where it is easy to obtain it. You go where obtaining it is a challenge. You challenge yourself to the highest level. That is why I wanted to coach a men’s team,” she said.
Mavis Appiah has been eyeing an opportunity to coach one of the national female football teams in Ghana and is taking courses to aid her obtain CAF license B in coaching.
