Tuesday night 'dumsor' due to faulty cable – ECG

Some parts of Accra have been experiencing power outages in recent times.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has said power outages in some areas in the Greater Accra region Tuesday are due to faulty cables at its Mallam Bulk Supply Point (BSP).

But in a statement, the state power distributor said it “wishes to inform its cherished customers that there is an interruption in power supply in the western part of Accra due to an accident which led to a cable cut tripping the system at its Mallam Bulk Supply Point (BSP).”

It further indicated that its “engineers are working assiduously to restore power as soon as possible, adding that it apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Government officials and power authorities have often attributed the issue of erratic power supply to vandalised gas pipelines from Nigeria.

But opposition officials say the problem is due to government inability to purchase fuel to power the country's turbines.

President John Mahama, during the campaign launch of the NDC in August said stable power has been restored, bringing an end to what he calls the country’s worst power crisis.

He added that “While we have done a lot to stabilize the power situation a lot more remains to be done”.
