'Ghana league one of the best' - Nyantakyi

The Ghana FA boss claims the Ghanaian domestic league boasts of a better standard than South Africa’s Premier Soccer League.

Kwesi Nyantakyi has reiterated his stance that the Ghana Premier League has more technically gifted players than the South Africa’s Premier Soccer League.

The Ghana FA president is impressed with how attractive the South African top-flight has become, but maintains that the Ghanaian equivalent still boasts players with greater technique on the ball.

“The fact that the South Africa Premier League is the most resourced does not mean that it is the best in terms of quality football,” Nyantakyi said at seminar.“When it comes to quality of football, Ghana ranks amongst the best in Africa and yet we’re one of the poorest in terms of resources.“This may be linked even to the size of our economy but are there ways that we can go around these challenges and make our league that attractive so we can raise money and make our league very competitive,” he said.

The Ghana Premier League has been widely chastised for lacking attractiveness, particularly in the quality of play and players, sponsorship, marketability as well as infrastructure.

The Ghana Premier League 2015 /16 season, long due for kickoff, is yet to be scheduled due to legal issues involving a number of clubs.
