Hiplife artiste, Kokoveli has revealed that he left the music scene because some disk jockeys (DJs) who doubled as managers of some artistes were making the industry uncomfortable for him.
Narrating his long absence story from the music to Abrantepa on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, , the hit maker said he was discouraged by the act of sabotage by some DJs towards him and other several artistes.
“It wasn’t as if I couldn’t compete with those around at the time. In any case, the songs I released during those days all made a hit. I was mostly outside the country and those days, some presenters were managers of some artistes. So they could fight other artistes thinking that your song could shadow that of their artistes,” he said.
“Everyone was fighting for their artistes which wasn’t supposed to be so. I didn’t like the idea. It discouraged me because even if your song is good, a DJ could sabotage you and all. It was bad. Some people could cope but I’m not the type. The best thing for me was to get out of it for a while,” he added.
The rapper hinted that he will soon release a song which will makes waves.
When asked what makes him think the same situation does not exist in the industry, and if it does, how ready he is to cope, Kokoveli stated that he has learnt to adapt to such a situation.
“When working out on other stuffs, you also have to work on yours. I studied it and I now feel it is better. I have worked on myself to be able to cope with it,” he said.
Kokoveli dispelled assertions that his songs were not good enough to compete with others saying, “It wasn’t a sabotage towards me alone. It was a general problem. Talking about quality songs, we were doing quality music at that time. My records were a hit. I just didn’t like what was going on in the industry.”
