Students stranded at Wesley Girls High School as school refuses them admission

The Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast has allegedly refused to admit some students who were posted to the school by the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

The students, about 200 in number had documents of placement to buttress their claim of admission to the school but were turned down by the school authorities.

Some of the students who trooped to the school with their parents to have their admissions processed were left stranded as the school authorities insisted that their names were not on the list they received from the CSSPS secretariat.

Now the fates of these students are uncertain as fresh students had already reported and academic work had also begun.

A parent whom the GNA contacted but spoke on condition of anonymity narrated how her daughter who had aggregate seven (7) was posted to the school and subsequently received a text message to that effect indicating the account she was to pay the school fees into.

According to her, she paid the school fees only to go the school on Monday October 26 with the daughter to be told that her daughter’s name was not on the school’s list and that she could not be admitted.

She lamented that she shuttle back and forth from the Western Region every day in an attempt to get the Headmistress for explanation but all had proved futile while her daughter’s luggage lied somewhere in Cape Coast.

Another parent also revealed to the GNA that they have been advised by sources close to the school authority to pay an amount of GH 5,000.00 through an agent before their wards could be offered admission to the school.

Attempts to reach the Headmistress proved futile but Mr. Gabriel Kumasah, the Assistant Headmaster of the school in an interview with confirmed that some parents have come to the school with documents to prove that their wards had been admitted but the number would not exceed 20.

He however could not indicate the total number of students admitted into the school but stated that the list has been pasted on the school’s notice board.

But GNA checks from the school’s notice board revealed that a total of 360 students had been admitted comprising, 152 General Science, 98 General Arts, 70 Home Economics, 30 Business and only 10 for Visual Arts.
