Addressing a press conference in Tamale, the Northern Regional Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Sule Salifu said the demonstration is to let government know that the plight of residents have worsened as a result of high utility tariffs.

“We are determined to show to the whole world that President Mahama and his government cannot continue to take us for granted and treat the people of the north as if we are only good for votes”, he stated.

He said President Mahama “has shown that he simply does not care about the fact that more and more people here in the north are struggling just to put a single meal on the dining table for the family.”
The press conference was attended by representatives from the Convention People’s Party (CPP), People National Convention (PNC), and All Peoples Congress (APC).
The demonstration dubbed “Di Miiya” in Dagbani which literally means “Times Are Tough” would be staged in the Tamale metropolis.
Scores of residents are expected to support the demonstration when the time is due, organisers have said.
