The lads of Meadeama has beaten the Phobians by 2-1 in the FA cup semi finals

On Sunday at the Cape Coast sports stadium Medeama SC maintained their superiority over Hearts of Oak as they beat the Phobians by two goals to one in the semi finals of the MTN FA Cup.

Two first half goals from Medeama attacker, Akwasi Donsu and a second half goal from the spot courtesy Robin Gnagne was not enough as the Phobians failed to book their place in the finals of the FA Cup.

Medeama unsettled the Phobians from the onset as they dictated the pace of the game, putting a lot of pressure on the Accra based side forcing them to commit mistakes on the field.

The intense pressure from Medeama paid off in the 5th minute of the game after Akwasi Donsu scored a 40 yard screamer after Seidu Mutawakilu in post for the Phobians came off his line.

The Mauve and Yellow gathered more confidence in the game searching for more goals but Hearts of Oak captain Robin Gnagne dealt with all the dangerous incursions from Medeama. But the Tarkwa based club persistently kept the pressure on the former premier league champions and in the 15th minute mark, Akwasi Donsu registered his brace on the day with a powerful drive on the edge of Hearts of Oak penalty box.

Medeama still maintained their composure and their attacking shape as they were the better side in the game winning all the 50-50 balls but the closet the Tarkwa based club came looking for their third goal they got flagged offside.

However, in the 38th minute Hearts of Oak coach, Herbert Addo pulled off unproductive Gilbert Fiamenyo for Isaac Mensah which worked perfectly for the Phobians as Mensah brought more life in the attacking third of Hearts of Oak but they fluffed the chances they had as the first half was brought to end.

In the second half the Phobians came in strongly but the defensive line of Medeama curtailed their well calculated passes as the Mauve and Yellow got pushed back with the persistent pressure from Hearts of Oak.

Eric Kumi in the 54th minute won a penalty for Hearts of Oak after Evans Quao brought him down, the resulted kick was neatly converted by Robin Gnagne, the goal motivated the Phobians as they besieged the goal area of Medeama but they failed to strike the equalizing goal.

And late in the game, it was end to end action with Medeama being resolute at the back and Hearts of Oak pushing more men forward searching for the needed equalizer but Herbert Addo’s men failed to put the ball at the back of the net as the Mauve and Yellow held on to win the game 2-1 setting a final date with Asante Kotoko.
