Remi Garde pleased with Jordan Ayew's team effort

The 24-year-old is showing real fight and also has the quality to back up his work rate

In-form Jordan Ayew has the ability to spark a surprise turnaround for Aston Villa this season.

The claret and blues striker bagged a fine individual strike to salvage a draw for his struggling side at Newcastle and Villa are now pinning their hopes on the Ghanaian continuing his recent goals glut.

Boss Remi Garde has been pleased with Ayew, not only for his goals but also his contribution for the team.

And when asked if he could be the man to save the season, the Frenchman replied:

“Yes, of course.

“He could score goals for us in the second part of the season but we have others that can as well when we play in a different style.

“Jordan is a different player from all others in the team that’s for sure.

“He’s got the pace.

“He’s got the stamina as well.

“When you look at how many runs he made in the game defensively, offensively, sometimes he gets the ball but sometimes he runs to create space for other players.

“He’s a special player. He’s a decisive player and hopefully he will score more goals.”

Ayew’s four goal of the season was sensational but his work ethic was equally as pleasing.

He looked like a player who was really up for the fight and Garde needs his other young men to commit to the cause in the same way as the 24-year-old.

“I’ve said that after every game,” Garde admitted.

“If you look at all the games we didn’t play full games.

“Maybe the first one I was in charge of against City but then we only played half-time or for 50 minutes or 60 minutes but then we need definitively to play a whole game for 90 minutes, to win duels from the beginning of the game.

“The confidence once again among the players and team is so low because of the situation but when we are in this situation, we have nothing to lose when we’re losing and we start to play.

“It’s something to work on.”
