Conservationist outraged after Nigerians kill endangered Leatherback turtle
Conservation activists are outraged after a Leatherback sea turtle was slaughtered in a coastal community in Lagos.
According to @marine_coastalconservenig, the Leatherback turtle is an endangered species worldwide. With only approximately 36,000 nestling females worldwide, the Leatherback turtle is listed as endangered in Canada and USA.
The Leatherback turtle rarely seen in other countries is a great tourist attraction and economy booster. But unfortunately, they are captured and massacred for food by locals whenever they are spotted on the beached.
The conservatory calls this an act of ignorance and calls upon stakeholders from around the world to arise and save the African Leatherback turtle.
