Corpse exhumed as it was heard screaming and banging the coffin 11 days after burial

Rosangela Almeida dos Santos was rushed to Hospital do Oeste in Barreiras and was admitted for a week after she suffered a severe fatigue.

Her coffin was tightly nailed and buried and the tomb cemented. However, on February 9, her coffin had to be exhumed following alarm raised by residents close to the the Senhora Santana cemetery in Riachao das Neves, northeast Brazil.

Reports say when the coffin was opened, family members noticed scratch and blood marks inside the coffin, her body was warm and the lid was found to have been pushed upwards.

While the family was desperately digging out the coffin to retrieve their relative, an unidentified person filmed the development.

Natalina Silva, one of the residents close to the cemetery told Brazilian news network G1 that “ a joke on me. Then I heard her groan twice and after those two groans she stopped.”

Another resident, Ana Francisco Dias is also quoted as saying “There were more than 500 people who came here and packed the cemetery, everybody went to see, lots of people touched her foot and everybody saw that she was still warm. She wasn't cold.”

Isamara Almeida, sister of Rosangela Almeida dos Santos said “We don't want to accuse any doctor, we don't want to cause any problems, but we witnessed that situation, there's just no way a person can be buried for 11 days and still be warm.”

Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing into the entire drama, as Lead investigator, Police chief Arnaldo Monte released a statement saying,

“We have today started to take statements from family members and other people.

“If need be we will exhume Ms Santos' body again so we can get to the bottom of what really happened.”
