I defiled her in my sitting room, not bathhouse! – Suspect argues with police

A businessman has been remanded into Police custody by an Accra Circuit Court following an accusation that he defiled a 15-year-old girl at Labone in Accra.

Man in court for alleged defilement of neigbour's 3-year-old daughter

It is reported that 28-year-old Kwame Gyamfi denied the charge of defilement preferred against him by the prosecution when he appeared before the court presided over by Mrs Ruby Naa Adjeley Quayson, and hence he was remanded to reappear on January 31.

According to the Ghana News Agency, the suspect admitted to having sexual intercourse with the minor in his caution statement, but argued that he committed the offence in his sitting room and not the bathroom as alleged.

Prosecutor, Sergeant Opoku Aniagyei told the court that a 36-year-old unemployed from Labone had filed a complaint with the police, claiming that Gyamfi had sexually abused the victim in a bathhouse.

He added that the suspect who lives in the same vicinity with both the complainant and the victim had made advances towards the victim several times, but she turned him down.

However, in August last year, the victim entered their bathroom to urinate when Gyamfi allegedly invaded the bathhouse and ordered her to bend down on a tall kitchen stool, and he had sexual intercourse with her from behind.

He then warned her to not mention her name, but blame the incident on a strange man.

Prosecution said that on January 14 this year, the complainant observed that the victim was behaving abnormally and queried her, but she was hesitant in revealing her ordeal.

The complainant the took the victim to the La Polyclinic the next day for a check-up where it came to light that she was carrying a 6-month pregnancy.

It was at this point that the victim disclosed her ordeal and the complainant boldly approached the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit in the Greater Accra Region and filed a complaint.

Gyamfi was arrested after a medical form had been issued by DOVVSU and the victim examined.
