An Abeokuta Magistrates' Court on Tuesday remanded a 20-year-old, Micheal Bassey, in prison custody for allegedly deflowering a 19-year-old secondary school girl.
The Magistrate, Mrs Abiola Onifade, who gave the order, said the accused should be kept behind bars at Oba Prisons near Abeokuta pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Bassey, whose address is unknown, is facing a two-count offence bordering on rape.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Idowu Ogunleye, the accused committed the offences on June 10 at Command Day Secondary School, Lafenwa, Abeokuta.
Ogunleye said: "The 19-year-old girl, who attends Premiere Secondary School, Abeokuta, was sent on an errand to Command Day Secondary School.
"She managed to crawl to one of the army checkpoints in the area with blood stains."
The accused was, however, apprehended by soldiers who immediately launched a manhunt for him, the prosecutor said.
Ogunleye said the offences contravened Sections 357 and 358 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
Mr Adebayo Ogundeyi, counsel to the accused, entered no plea.
Further hearing in the case has been fixed for Aug. 21.
