Acne completely ruined my self-esteem - Kendall Jenner

"I felt like such an outcast; when I spoke, it was with my hand covering my face. Sure, I had crushes in high school, but I wouldn’t even think about looking at guys."

Kendall Jenner has opened up on her blog about her struggle with 'bad acne' while she was growing up. It was only helped by a dermatologist  and a little advice from her older sisters.

Her problems with acne started when she was a teen at school. "Where it really impacted me was how self-conscious I became about it," Jenner says. "It completely ruined my self esteem. I wouldn’t even look at people when I talked to them.

Looking at the 19 year-old model now, it would be hard to imagine her with acne, but it was down to an 'incredible dermatologist'  whose identity has not yet been revealed  who helped to clear up her skin. She now relies on the laser treatment Laser Genesis, which penetrates deep into the cellular layer of the skin to help improve acne and scarring.

Jenner also goes on to say her older sisters helped to get her though the tough phase  with some age-old advice. "I remember sitting by the pool at home, and my older sisters always told me to keep my hands off my face and to never pick."

But, she says, it was a gradual process that took time. "It wasn’t anything that happened overnight,” she reveals. "Even after things started to clear up, it took a solid amount of time to be okay with my skin and gain back my confidence. I realized that it’s a part of life for some people, and it doesn’t define who you are."

This isn’t the first time Jenner has spoken about her self-esteem. In an interview with Allure magazine earlier this year, she said, "I still have a hard time looking at someone when I’m talking to them, and I get nervous. When I started getting in front of the camera a lot, I think my confidence started to come out. It took a minute, because I had to believe in myself."
