Is this the world's most dangerous road?

A treacherous road on the edge of a mountain is becoming one of China's biggest must-see attractions.

The new 5,757-metre-long mountain road in Xiushan county, in south-western China's Chongqing municipality, has now been dubbed the "road to heaven" and is already on the must-visit list of Chinese driving enthusiasts.

The latest of many formidable and beautiful driving roads in China, the motorway has a total of 45 dangerous hairpin turns while it elevates drivers from an altitude of 625 to 1,175 metres above sea level.

The winding road in Chongqing - a city known locally as the City of Mountains - is also the only access in and out of Chuanhegai village, from which the entire length of the "zigzag" road can be seen.

The local Xiushan County Government has promised to promote the "road to heaven" and turn it into a main tourist attraction in the region, which will also bring more people to the village it reaches.

Large swarms of tourists are are expected in the near future, as China begins to boast of yet another of the world's most interesting driving roads.
