Meet Ethel Cofie

TEDxAccra 2015 will take place on April 11 at the National Theatre from 7am to 7pm. It is expected to be the biggest TEDx event in Ghana to date. The theme for this year is “The Next Chapter”.

Ethel Cofie is a Tech entrepreneur (www.edelitconsult.com) with extensive experience in Europe and Africa.  A Mandela Fellow for President Obama's Young African Leaders initiative, she was recently featured on BBC and CNN for her work.  She has international experience working on a variety of projects including the Bill and Melinda Gates Mobile Technology for Health project, the Ford Foundation's Election Monitoring project for Nigeria, and was head of Commercial Solutions at Vodafone.

She is the founder of Women in Tech Ghana, initiator of the 1st Pan African woman in tech meet up and was shortlisted for the UN GEM Tech Award for her work supporting women in ICT. Her latest project is an Accelerator AfricaYwenty10 for startups launching in multiple African markets.

Why you should listen to her talk?

I believe entrepreneurship is Africa way out of poverty. Entrepreneurship is on the increase, because Africa, at last has being emerging and the economies are booming -- several countries are starting to really increase entrepreneurial activity and move to opportunity entrepreneurship, rather than necessity entrepreneurship,"

Likewise, sub-Saharan Africa claims the top five spots for countries where people see good opportunities for starting a business and feel positive about entrepreneurship. Africa is going to have to rely on small businesses (SMEs) to provide the bulk of the employment.
