A New Jersey Muslim student of Palestinian descent, Abrar Shahin, has been named best-dressed female senior student at a US school.

A Muslim student, Abrar Shahin, has been named best-dressed female senior student at a US school.

Shahin, a New Jersey Muslim, broke the stereotypes of women wearing the Islamic headscarf.

She managed to win the admiration of her colleagues at Clifton High School to win the best-dressed vote.

“There are mostly popular girls or girls from team cheerleader’s squad who win, so I was extremely amazed it was me, being a hijabi,” Shahin said after winning.

“For me, it was a dream come true.”

Islamic fashion in the US is redefined by people like Shahin who is now the first ever veiled student to win the title.

“It’s such an honor to see, to the point that they are looking at us as equivalent and that they’re not simply looking at our head scarfs,” she added.

Shahin, of Palestinian descent, has her sights set on owning a fashion organization while pursuing a physiotherapy based degree at Rutgers University.
