New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is unsurprised by England's presence in the World Twenty20 semi-finals, hailing their "aggressive and fearless cricket".

The Black Caps are the only side left in the tournament with a 100 per cent record, while England reached the final four with three straight wins after beginning their Super 10 campaign with a defeat against West Indies.

Williamson, who previously represented Gloucestershire and Yorkshire in the County Championship, was part of New Zealand's tour of England in 2015 that included defeats in both the one-day and T20 series.

"I'm not surprised at all, having played county cricket in England I've seen these guys a lot and how good players they are," he said of England's progress to the last four.

"We know they are a big threat, as we saw in the one-day series in England, and when I saw the team on paper I knew they would be a tough challenge.

"They are guys who play aggressive and fearless cricket. It is no surprise to me they are in the semi-final of the World Cup.

"You are always trying to improve and I think England have done that, they are very much contenders.

"They bat very deep, it is a strong part of their side, but the focus for us is on how we play our cricket and what suits us."
