Two young Ghanians have won the the 2017 edition of the American Society of Mechanical Innovation Showcase contest.
The winners, Charles Ofori Antipem and Michael Afrifa won the international engineering challenge with their portable science lab in a form of a mathematical set to beat eight other pairs of contestants.
The DEXT Science Set, the device which is similar to mathematical set has basic science experiment tools.
The device also helps in the better understanding of basic science principles.

The contest gives students the opportunity of establishing the most innovative idea to solving the urgent social and environmental issues.
The winners were part of nine other finalists from Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya who were shortlisted out of 30 finalists who came before the judges with their ideas.
Participants receive feed-back on their idea, access to industry best practice and contact with a global community of engineering experts.
The Ghanaian team would now become members of the Innovative Showcase (ISHOW) alumni network, a global community of hardware innovators.

The highly scalable portable science laboratory by the Ghanaians fits into a bag and can be set up on a student’s desk.
The judges of the competition were so fascinated by the innovation that each of them purchased one for themselves.
Charles Ofori Antipem, Co-founder and representative of the group in Kenya told journalists that their vision was to make the teaching and learning of science easier and appealing at the basic level.
