The governing New Patriotic Party parliamentary vetting in the Atiwa East constituency in the Eastern Region has taken a new twist, leaving many to suspect foul play.

All four aspirants challenging the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area on the ticket of the NPP, Abena Osei Asare, have been disqualified.

The aspirants, Ernest Adade Owiredu, Kudjoe Amegah Kafui, Eric Agyarko and Dr Benny Frank were disqualified during the party’s internal vetting on Saturday.

In a related development, the Minister for Roads and Highways and MP for Atiwa West, Kwasi Amoako Atta is also contesting alone, after his challenger was disqualified.

His sole challenger, Dr Samuel Owusu Akyem told the media that he may seek redress with the party in his disqualification in due time.

“There are a lot of things I’m not happy about, but I want to first meet my people before I comment or make public my next line of action,” he said.
